Laurel Blackburn
Laurel is the owner and “head honcho” of Blackburn Fitness and Training. With over 18 years of personal training experience, she has worked with a wide variety of clients coaching them through weight loss, strength and conditioning, mobility issues, injury prevention, and functional wellness.

As a woman in her 50s, Laurel has made it a goal to prove that age is just a number when it comes to strength and fitness. She has preformed many feats of strength and endurance including flipping a 360 lb tire 100 times to celebrate her 54th birthday.

Laurel is a Certified Russian Kettlebell Senior Instructor, a Certified International Sports Science Association (ISSA) Strength and Conditioning Trainer, a Certified Functional Movement Systems (FMS) Correct Exercise Coach, a Health Movement Specialist, an USA Powerlifting Coach, an ISSA Specialist in Fitness Nutrition, and a Certified Progressive Calisthenics Coach. 


Nigel BlackburnNigel Blackburn
Known for bending horseshoes and tearing phone books in half, Nigel is the resident “Man of Steel” at Blackburn Fitness and Training.

In addition to feats of strength, Nigel also is one of the best lightweight grip sport athletes in the world with numerous world records and is the reigning North American champion and world champion in the 66kg weight class.

He focuses on perfecting form and proper movement while working with people of all fitness levels. Nigel also trains clients for fat loss, strength gains and all areas of fitness. Nigel is a Certified International Sports Science Association (ISSA) Strength and Conditioning Coach, a USA Powerlifting Coach, and has a BS in Exercise Physiology from Florida State University.

I asked Nigel to help me with strength and condition between tennis league seasons.

Nigel played tennis competitively, which gives him sport-specific experience to design a targeted training program. Our workouts are tennis-specific, but also accommodate my personal aches and pains.

In four weeks, my feet are quicker and my core is stronger. At our last session, I decided to continue to work with Nigel because I want to keep the progress going.

I have been working out with Nigel Blackburn three times a week for the last six months on my strength, speed and conditioning in preparation for a challenging year of tournament competition, and his tennis-specific aining has been outstanding. Well in advance of each 60-minute session, Nigel meticulously researches the most appropriate exercises for the day then writes them on a white board at his training center. Just prior to the workout, he explains exactly what we will do and why. The workouts have made me a stronger, faster and more conditioned tennis player than I have been in years.

Nigel provided a workout program that was specific to my individual needs and goals. I receive a different workout three times a week which means I’m not bored in the gym. I really like the True Coach App because it allowed me to re-watch videos associated with each exercise to make sure my form and movements are correct. Nigel’s program allowed me the flexibility I needed to workout on my schedule and also took into consideration workouts while traveling. While my favorite benefit to using Nigel is that my workouts are planed for me, I found that reporting my workout results held me accountable and motivated me to go to the gym.
